Political Public Opinion: N.Y. Legislators to Ban Salt In Resturant Food?

“In the home of the greatest power, the village idiot will come forth to be acclaimed the leader.”

Nostradamus

My kingdom for a pinch of salt!

As if the Obama administrations bungling of the economy and toxic attempts to control our individual freedoms on the national level were not enough, along comes another absurd piece of socialist legislation designed to limit your freedom of choice; a ban on the use of salt in restaurant food preparation. New York State assemblyman Felix Ortiz, (D-Brooklyn), has proposed legislation that would ban the use of salt in restaurant food preparation and would fine restaurants $ 1000.00 for each violation.

In a very succinct example of doublespeak. Ortiz is using the issue of health concerns as a cover to raise revenue or worse yet as a cover to test the waters of further socialist control of your freedom of choice. My guess is that like Obama, Ortiz is one of those ideologues who is convinced that he has a mandate to control the lives of others, his choices being paramount to that of the ignorant masses.

Some New York City chefs and restaurant owners are taking aim at bill…. that, if passed, would ban the use of salt in restaurant cooking.

“No owner or operator of a restaurant in this state shall use salt in any form in the preparation of any food for consumption by customers of such restaurant, including food prepared to be consumed on the premises of such restaurant or off of such premises,” the bill, A. 10129, states in part.

“The consumer needs to make their own health choices. Just as doctors and the occasional visit to a hospital can’t truly control how a person chooses to maintain their health, neither can chefs nor the occasional visit to a restaurant,” said Jeff Nathan, the executive chef and co-owner of Abigael’s on Broadway. “Modifying trans fats and sodium intake needs to be home based for optimal health. Regulating restaurants will not solve this health issue.”

Nathan is part of the group My Food My Choice, which calls itself a coalition of chefs, restaurant owners, and consumers, called the proposed law “absurd” in a press release issued on its Facebook page.  http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2010/03/11/chefs-proposed-new-york-salt-ban-absurd/

The bottom line is that if you are obsessively opposed to salt in your restaurant food, then stay home and leave the rest of us alone.  Just my opinion.

Clearly racist since salt is the condiment of choice in many minority cummunities.

  2. Justin Chisum says:

I also believe that the government is testing the waters for the continued implimentation of the amount of law we are governed by, always increasing it, thus taking away all freedom in time.
