Political Public Opinion: Obama’s End Run Around Advise And Consent

by

Peter McCullough

Ecclesiastics: 1:9. What has been is what will be; and what has been done, will be done; there is nothing new under the sun.

To those of you who have read Allen Drury’s “Advise and Consent”, you may find it fascinating if reread with today’s Washington D.C. as the backdrop. If you have yet to read this novel of political intrigue, (centered around the nomination by the President of a communist for Secretary of State), do so. Written in 1959 It parallels in some ways the goings on in our political scene of today; liberal media, communists, homosexuals, bribery, deceit, passivism, suicide (ala the Clinton years), treachery, treason and the dressing down of Supreme Court justices. Rather than bore you, fill in the gaps on your own; just about anything will fit.

Obama of course, has done an end run around  the “advise and consent” nomination process by the Senate and has avoided personal and philosophical scrutiny by those who should be scrutinizing. The end run by Barry the crafty one was his appointment of his innumerable Czars, serving at his whim, appointed by and answerable only to him, no confirmations needed

He was also wise to choose Hillary as Secretary of State, she being trusted by the little people on both sides of the aisle in congress. In a sane world she and her designer pants suits would be hanging out in the Salvation Army’s thrift shop. On record, by her own hand, she is an acolyte of Saul Alinsky, but as far as we know she doesn’t carry the hammer and sickle card as does the Secretary of State in the book.

We  might conclude that were all the skeletons to come out of the White House closets, every day would be Halloween at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

One Response to Political Public Opinion: Obama’s End Run Around Advise And Consent

    Peter,
Let me be the first to say that I have read “Advise and Consent” and i appreciate the concise and amusing parallels you have drawn between the book and Wash DC of today. It has been 30 years so I will today begin rereading this classic novel and I will recommend it to those whom I know to be politically astute and having graduated from school when the ability to read and write were still required.
