A 90-year-old Medal of Honor winner is being told by his homeowner’s association that he must remove a flagpole from his property because it’s not aesthetically pleasing. The Richmond Post-Dispatch reports that Col. Van T. Barfoot of Henrico County, Va., received a letter stating that he must remove the flagpole from his property by 5 p.m. on Friday or he would face “legal action being brought to enforce the Covenants and Restrictions against you.” “This is not about the American flag. This about a flagpole,” a statement issued by the Sussex Square Homeowners Association read. This is hypocracy at it’s worst.
Barfoot’s daughter, Margaret Nicholls, said that there’s no specific rule that bars people from erecting flagpoles on their properties. Many people in the neighborhood have short flag stands attached to their porches. But she and her husband are now drumming up support for her father’s fight. The Post-Dispatch writes that Barfoot raises and lowers an American flag on his property every day. He said in November that not flying the flag would be sacrilegious. “There’s never been a day in my life or a place I’ve lived in my life that you couldn’t fly the American flag,” he said. Once again we have a bunch of panty waist whatever’s, making up an excuse to limit the freedom of this man’s right to display the flag because it is not “aesthetically pleasing,” (read as offensive.) In this same article, according to his pro bono attorney, there is nothing specifically in the associations covenants that specify a flag poles appearance. That being the case I think we can safely assume that whoever was behind this action is a flag hater.
This affair is hypocrisy at it’s worst. These are the type of people that bray like jackasses when they feel their rights are being stepped on, yet I would be willing to assume they would give up those rights and be the first among many of those on the left who would be the first cowards to betray their country if it meant our survival.
What has happened to our America? We have a President who is slowly eroding our economic viability, national security and influence in the world. His actions appear intentional. In his case it would probably be safe to assume Obama, like the flag hating creeps in the Sussex Square Homeowners Association, is also a flag hater. Obama has never publicly saluted our flag, not on Veterans Day, Memorial Day or any other holiday honoring our country’s veterans and traditions. In fact he has never saluted the American flag that anyone can find.
The disrespect of Col. Van T. Barfoot’s right to fly our flag and the contempt for his “above and beyond the call” military service for his country, is another nail in the coffin of our great country. Stand up and fight means just that. Just my opinion.

It saddens me to think that this national sickness is intergenerational. These HOA’s are comprised of young, middle age, and senior residents. It is undersatandable that the younger generation having been seduced and indoctrinated by academia at every level of their education, from elementary and secondary school through college; and then of course the daily bombardment by the state run media reinforcing the brain washing. But why the generations who were raised in this contry when there was a national pride and self respect? What is it that allows them to join the posse and hunt down anything representing patriotism in their neighborhood? Is this a true barometer of where this country is now vis a vis its sentiments towards all things patriotic? Hey you older bastards, this would have been a time to take a stand and beat them over the head, these left wing lap dogs, with the colonel’s flagpole.
This is absolutely sickening. Homeowners associations are violating the constitution in an aggressive attack on this man, when they should be about confronting conditions in their community that detract from the quality of life and appearance by errant and slothy residents. This combat veteran is paying to be insulted and publicly demeaned for his patriotic sacrifices.
I’ve had a large, angle hung American Flag on the front door of my large townhouse in Northern Virginia for quite some time and nothing has been said by my homeowners association, and they know better than to open their mouths about it. They all know me and have a good idea of what I represent, and the know better then to even start with me over my flag. It will not be taken down and if they start more will mysteriously appear.
If professional distractions did not interfere with the routine here I’d take some vacation days and go sit on the Colonel’s front porch and have anyone who apprached in a hostile manner to take that flag arrested for tresspassing.
