If the Chamber thinks it can win this one…….
The transparency promised by Barack Obama has finally arrived. What is transparent is the administration’s attempt to defame and demean the U.S. Chamber of Commerce which has come out against the administration’s ‘cap n trade’ legislation. (http://features.csmonitor.com/politics/2009/10/25/after-fox-news-next-on-obama-hit-list-chamber-of-commerce/) According to the Wall Street Journal, (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125555070414585571.html), that legislation will cost jobs in addition to raising the cost of energy. The increased cost will be inccured because those companies not in compliance with the”green energy’ standards set by the administration, will be forced to pay ‘carbon offset’ credits to continue operating. Those costs will be passed on to the consumer. Al Gore’s Generational Investments Management Corporation will as usual, be the probable recipient of these offsets, and Gore is probably rubbing his chubby hands with glee.
In order to undermine the chamber the Obama socialists are reaching out to corporations directly instead of going through the Chamber. It would no doubt be safe to assume that those corporations who have left the chamber, Apple, Exxelon, Pacific Gas and Electric among a few, are being bought off with some sort of enticement to jump the chamber’s ship.
Valerie Jarrett, Obama’s Senior Advisor, the wicked witch of the mid-west, was quoted as saying, ” Our strategy is to reach out directly to the business community. This is a shift. Previously, the chamber had served as the sole intermediary for business.”
This statement supports my contention that those large corporations are being bought off because once they leave the collective umbrella of the chamber they will be on their own. (http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-chamber25-2009oct25,0,2759556.story)
The majority of the chamber’s members are small businesses who will suffer under the cap in trade legislation. The increased cost of doing business will bankrupt many, leaving open the door for the large corporations to take over the market share now held by those small businesses. The Obama administration knows that if it can break the chambers hold on the now strong coalition, it will be free to do whatever it wants with regards to energy restrictions; there will be no one left to oppose them.
Once again it comes down to government control. The White House advisers, Rahm Emanuel, David Axelrod and Valerie Jarrett are orchestrating the White House attack on the chamber, Fox News and whoever else gets in their way. This once again goes to Obama and his corrupt fellow travellers from Chicago and their inability to realize that the majority of people in this country, unlike the poor hacks in Chicago, do not owe them any sort of patronage.
This White House offensive called “Chicago style politics,” is nothing more than an attempt to bully the nation into compliance with their self serving socialist agenda. The bullying, extortion and intimidation used successfully in bye gone years by the Chicago mob, and now used by the Chicago Democratic machine, does not play well with the rest of the country; that is with the exception of the gullible and brain dead. Once again, power is the name of the game. Just my opinion.
