More Government Incompetence – Stories of the Week

“Bureaucrats write memoranda both because they appear to be busy when they are writing and because the memos, once written, immediately become proof that they were busy.”

Charles Peters

It occurred to me that if bureaucrats were held to a merit system for their performance, there might be some claim to the value of their work, rather than the sloth and incompetence that seem to be the hallmark of these otherwise useless human beings.

It has been reported this week in The Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Times, Fox News, et al, that the Veterans Administration, due to bureaucratic incompetence, failed to issue G.I. education benefit checks to thousands of Iraqi and Afghan war veterans. Should we be surprised? The Obama administration has shown no hesitation in throwing our tax money to their rich friends in the banking industry. They also have shown no hesitation in sending our troops to Afghanistan, with no end game strategy - to be blown up or murdered by savages who they, (the Obama Justice Department), have given constitutional rights – but not to worry – the VA will issue stop gap checks this coming week to those neglected veterans. The question is why didn’t you just give them their checks to begin with? Moving on….

The Social Security Administration has, (to reinforce the point of incompetence on the part of bureaucrats), been ordered to pay $500 million to 80,000 elderly and disabled Social Security Disability recipients who had their benefits cut off as a result of more bureaucratic incompetence - The Wall Street Journal, Saturday, September 26, 2009, by Ellen P. Schultz. This little snafu was the result of what is known as the “Fugitive Recovery Act,” which was intended to prevent fugitive felons from receiving Social Security benefits. Launched in 1996 it was  extended in 2005 to include old age and disabled Social Security beneficiaries. This problem arose, (you guessed it), from an incorrect interpretation of manual guidelines on what constitutes felonies. Unfortunately, suspended drivers licenses, unpaid traffic tickets and a host of other infractions were counted as felonies.

Then there is a story  aired yesterday, Friday, September 25, 2009, on the Neil Cavuto - Fox Business Report on the Fox Cable News Network, that reported that $1 billion dollars in ‘stimulus’ money, intended to provide jobs for American workers, was awarded in a grant to Al Gore’s Generational Investment Management Corporation, and instead of being used to put Americans to work, was distributed to European car companies in Finland and Britain for research and development for alternative energy fueled cars. Now that sounds like outright fraud, but then Al Gore’s involved – would you expect anything less?

In closing I would point out that these are the very type of dime store bureaucrats who will be administering your ‘health care’ benefits under Obama’s intended socialist style health care system, and if you think the incompetency inherent in our current system of government is bad – just wait to see the explosion of bureaucratic incompetence coming our way once Obama’s socialist system is fully in place.  Just my opinion.

Well either our system needs less corruption or more opportunity for me to partake in it.
