Censorship – At Long Last

GOP Not Allowed to say ‘Government Run Health Care.’  Human Events.com, Friday, July 24, 2009, by Connie Hair.  Rep. John Carter, (R-Tx), Secretary of the House Republican Conference….is having messages to his constituents censored by Democrats on the House Franking Commission. Republicans are no longer allowed to use the words “government run health care” in communications to their constituents….What was proposed, (actually told what term must be  used), by the Franking Commission,  according to Congressman Carter was….’ The House Majority unveiled a public option health care plan.’

A quick explanation of the Franking Commission: Pursuant to Public Law 93-191, the bi-partisan Commission on Congressional Mailing Standards, (known as the Franking Commission), has a three fold mandate, (1) to issue regulations governing the proper use of franking, (postage), privileges, (2) to provide guidance in connection with mailings; (3) to act as a quasi judicial body for disposition of complaints against members of Congress who have allegedly violated franking laws or regulations.  Sourced from The House of Representatives-The Committee on House Administration, Washington D.C.- Chairman Robert A. Brady.

Why you may, ask is this important? For starters it was never meant to be a vehicle for partisan censorship. The complaint in this case however, came from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The outcome of her complaint was predictable given the Democrat majority on this and all other house committees.

Here again we have the liberal elites, dictating what can be and what cannot be said, (after all what’s good enough for Cubans and Venezuelans is good enough for us.)

How long will it be before those who point out the lies and misinformation put out by this administration, are censored? If you are too comfortable to not be concerned about these issues- you should be – your freedom of expression and mine are at risk.  Just my opinion.
