When a coup isn’t – Under Hondoras Constitution, the ouster of President Manuel Zelaya was legal. (Los Angeles Times – Op-Ed, Friday, July 10, 2009, by Miguel Estrada – A Honduran native and member of the official U.S. delegation to President Zelaya’s 2006 inauguration.) “the Honduran Constitution may be amended in anyway but three. No amendment can change (1), the country’s borders, (2), the rules that limit a President to a single four-year term, (3), the requirement that Presidential administrations must succeed one another in a republican form of government….In addition, Article 239, (of the Honduran Constitution), specifically states that any President who so much as proposes the permissibility of re-election “shall cease forthwith in his duties,” and Article 4 provides that any infraction of the rules constitutes treason.”
Once again there are two factors in play regarding the mis-labeled “coup” that overthrew the budding socialist dictator Zelaya and they are that (1), the mainstream media has up to this point shown it’s ignorance of the Honduran Constitution and (2), it highlights once again our socialist President’s continuing ignorance of other countries political culture and systems.
You definitely may remember that the left wing democrats savaged Sarah Palin over her apparent lack of knowledge in the realm of international affairs but who tried to convince us that Obama’s experience in government gave him the appropriate tools necessary in the arena of foreign policy – well….who’s talking now?
This President has shown himself ignorant more than a few times with regards to protocol that governs relations with other countries – his condemnation of the Honduran Government obeying their Constitution in removing Zelaya from office illustrates that he himself is a “fellow traveler” of the wanna be socialist dictator – too bad our constitution doesn’t have an amendment governing diarrhea of the mouth because this President would definitely be flushed down the toilet. Just my opinion.
