Unemployment Claims Drop – So What?

Comment – Opinion.  Here we go again. The mainstream media, those willing co-conspirators of an inept administration, are playing us once again. The Wall Street Journal, New York Times and even the much vaunted Fox News are crowing because there were only 535,000 new unemployment claims reported by the Labor Dept. last week –  the lowest reported so far this year.  The Wall Street Journal, (Thursday, July 9, 2009),reported that this news doesn’t necessarily indicate a trend, but the figures were a surprise because there were not as many layoffs as anticipated in the auto industry.  Hmmmm….well buckaroos, I would ask, how many jobs are left in the auto industry?

These various economic reports are extremely misleading. The fact of the matter is that this economy is undeniably in shambles and the media in their love affair with this administration continually underplays the seriousness of the situation when they report these negative benchmarks as being positive. I don’t know about you but I could care less how the “market” responds to these reports. What the media should be asking is, how could you, (Mr President), let this many people be unemployed in the first place? Why are you, (Mr. President), kibbutzing around the world in your attempt to be loved and liked instead of staying at home taking care of business. When, (Mr. President),  will the much touted “change” in our fortunes occur?

My guess is that our great leader has no answers – it’s easier  to run around the planet seeking consenses and adoration instead of staying home and taking a measured approach to solving our economic problems. One thing this President doesn’t seem to understand is that he has so far solved nothing. The administration has only intensified the current financial  situation by their knee jerk responses -  spending our tax money by giving “stimulus” money to failed inustries and  financial institutions –  while throwing crumbs to the American public with federally funded “make work” programs, that are at best only short term solutions to the problem.

In summary – one thing is certain about this whole scenario, and that is that the mainstream media  is complicit is this continuing downward spiral of the economy by not challenging this administration over it’s poorly thought out economic solutions.  Just my opinion.

    Hi Bill,
This is Andrew, I met you on a flight back from Atlanta to Ontario, I hope you still remember. By the way, I totally agreed with you on this subject. I haven’t see any change in economy since the new president was elected; I don’t expect that our economy going to turn around gradually, but at least there has to be some improvement.
