Dems in Congress fought nuclear security for New York. (New York Daily News – Editorial, June 29, 2009.) ” The White House and the Democratic leadership of Congress took aim last week at denying New York the federal funding this city needs to maintain vigilance against nuclear weapons…..Obama’s aids, including Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano, called for killing a $40 million, (dollar), appropriation that pays for a ring of radiological detectors on highways, bridges, tunnels and waterways….the house leadership – Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Hoyer, Majority Whip Clyburn and most committee chairs – waged a reckless fight to to kill the funding.”
The editorial pointed out that fortunately for New York, heavy lobbying by New York Congressman Peter King and N.Y.P.D. Commissioner Ray Kelly won the day and a measure restoring the funding passed the house.
This whole affair once again shows the myopic self serving interests of the Democratic leadership in Washington who are more concerned about their own agendas and would rather squander billions of our tax monies on “stimulus” funding for their rich patrons in the banking industry than protect the voters who elected them. That said, I also wonder what this whole mess says about those New York voters who overwhelmingly helped elect this administration?
My opinion stands, that this is a reflection of under – informed and poorly educated individuals who vote on emotion and along party lines with no thought of negative consequence. Again…. just my opinion.
