Obama’s Civilian Youth Corps. (Comment) This program is the brain child of the new administration. Hyped as a “national youth service corps” , the plan will involve a mandatory national service program where all youths 18 to 21 years old will be required to perform community service,( five billion dollars in the new budget is set aside by Congress to fund this program.) The question is what kind of community service will they really be performing?
The problem with this program is when first mentioned by Obama as part of a campaign speech given on July 16, 2008 in Denver, Colorado, he, ( Obama), said that this program would be an “alternative” to the military that would be just as strong and well funded as the military, (I’m paraphrasing – you can see that segment of his speech on u-tube.) The concept would seem commendable in theory, but various components of this program as outlined by Obama’s people is that there would be uniforms and physical training involved and additionally one of the focus’s of the corps would be to check on compliance with environmental directives issued by the administration, and conduct enforcement, with training to take place in four year institutions or “public service academies” that will train future public sector leaders,(this sounds like the same bureaucratic institutions so critical to maintaining communist power in East Germany and the Soviet Union.) There have been a number of claims that this program amounts to a civilian paramilitary force. I believe given the sketchy parameters of the program as presented, that there are a lot of questions left unanswered which cause many types of perceptions as to what the program intends to do. One thing is certain and that is that Obama, who is I believe a socialist, is trying to centralize power and put it into the hands of the federal government. Someone accused me not long ago of being paranoid, I call it hyper vigilance.
DOD Directive 1404.10 - Civilian Expiditionary Work Force. ( Comment on article appearing on directorblue.blogspot.com – I did verify this by googleing the DoD Directive listed above.) This directive passed just after Obama took office replacing the previous directive of the same designation passed as that issued in 1992, “Emergency – Essential Citizen Civilian Employees”, which was specifically tasked with overseas deployments of civilian personnel.
The new directive has dropped the overseas designation and instead addresses, (again paraphrasing , humanitarian emergency operations and disaster relief ; the new directive allows for restoration of order, drug interdiction and stability operations of the DoD), the last three functions mentioned are currently in place with local police, fire departments, various federal enforcement agencies and private aid entities. Under this directive all of those functions would be placed under the control of one federal agency, negating the need for any local entity participation in any emergency situation and taking away local municipalities, counties and states having any control in any emergency; this directive would give the Executive branch sweeping powers to do whatever it decides to do in any emergency situation.
The American Revolution was fought to avoid the programs like those mentioned above in order that the states woulds retain power and keep the central government from taking away local control from the people. Three counter balancing parts of the government, Executive, Legislative and Judicial were established to keep any one segment of the government from becoming too powerful, (I don’t know if they teach that in school anymore as evidenced by the blind sheep who voted for our current President.) Looking at this directive I see the makings of a Civilian Emergency National Security Force, beholden only to the Executive Branch. To those who abandon traditions in their quest to recycle failed policies, (Socialism), I leave you with this quote:
It has been said that Democracy is the worst form of government exept all others have been tried.
Winston Churchill
Socialism has never accomplished anything but repression of independent thought and has fostered tyranny.
