Sandwiches is a feature where I present current items in the print and news media that I will post once a week, (with my own sarcastic comments included) ,to invite your comments. This week:
“Security is back. They’ll smoke to that,” (Los Angeles Times, World Section, March 1, 2009, by Monte Moran and Caesar Ahmed, section A, pg. 11).
“With violence ebbing and more young Iraqi men with money to spend, ‘shisha’ clubs , ( for those of you not familiar these are hookah clubs – I actually went to one when I was guarding Saudi Crown Prince Sultan’s daughter in 2005), are popping up all over”….. the article goes on, ” That prior to the liberation of Iraq these mostly civil servants were making $3.00 per month…. compared to an average of $2600.00 per month’”, since the liberation (evidently the surge didn’t work.)
American blood and gold made it safe for Iraqi Shites, who were killing each other and American soldiers, to get pay raises and smoke in peace.
Thank you very much.
“Iranian Officials demands apology from visiting Hollywood group”, (Los Angeles Times, World Section, March 2, 2009, by Ramin Mostaghim, section A, pg. 3.)
“A top Iranian cultural advisor says American movies are guilty of ‘insults’ and ‘libel against Iran.”
Well he better get in line because most American movies are an insult to our intelligence and culture. Movies depicting violent assault, promiscuous sex, glorification of gangs and psychotic vigilantes, and denigration of traditional moral values, have been ruining our culture for years, by promoting surreal fantasies as reality, to a generation of under-educated gamers and computer slaves , ( remember I am fond of long sentences), though if I remember correctly Tennessee Williams penned a sentence 144 words long in the “Night Of The Iguana.”)
Way to go Barak!
Our new leader at least has the cajones to keep using those predator drones to kill Taliban psychopaths in Pakistan.(I wonder what the “Peanut Farmer thinks about that).
Now if Obama and his merry band of idiots in congress had a clue about macro economics…….
Russia Welcomes Letter From Obama, (New York Times.com, March 4, 2009).
“…Medev, said, Tuesday that his administration was open to overtures from the United States on it’s proposed missle defence plan, (shield), but he dismissed the notion of a deal in which the United States would shelve a plan in exchange for Russia’s help on Iran”, (another words Barack – go stick it).
Reading between the lines Medev essentially said we, (Russia), don’t really don’t care about your missle defense shield in eastern Europe, we are only busting your chops..holy moly! Well it certainly seems as if out new leader will have his hands full with that one!
Meanwhile the Eastern European countries who put themselves on the line by coming over to our side, are probably wondering if Obama has too many macadamia nuts floating around in that head of his.
Well folks that just about does it for today. Agree or disagree don’t be shy.
